"Occupying a spot near the iconic Petronas Towers and spread over six stories, Avenue K mixes high-tech concepts with handmade Asian products."
Conspicuous consumers have a new mecca in Asia: Kuala Lumpur's Avenue K. The trapezoidal building is an ultra-modern interpretation of the American mall, imagined by Paris-based designer Christian Liaigre.

Occupying a spot near the iconic Petronas Towers and spread over six stories, Avenue K mixes high-tech concepts (video installations by in-house French artist-producer Guillaume Guerin; fashion retrospectives by curators Palais de Tokyo) with handmade Asian products (the Oriental Bazaar sells batiks and jade jewelry).

Vast spaces between Gucci, Bottega Veneta, and an Asian food court by designer Yasumichi Morita convey the monumental feel of an airport, with soaring columns, expanses of terrazzo flooring, and outdoor light filtered through green-tinted glass-but Liaigre's gentle curves add a sensuality absent from any other shopping arcade in this hemisphere.

A concierge is on hand to charge cell phones, make dinner reservations, and escort children to the in-house petting zoo. And, taking advantage of KL's equatorial heat, there's even a teak sundeck on the roof.
