Central Market
Info Photo Gallery User Rating Packages
"It was formerly a wet market where vegetables, meat and fish were sold. Now, it is a beautiful and attractive Art Deco building."

Central Market is a must-visit spot if you are a first-time visitor to Kuala Lumpur. It is a former wet market that has been refurbished to become a centre for handicraft, antique and art sales. Central Market is certainly the best place to look for souvenirs and exclusively-made handicrafts.

Its two-floors building houses shops, hawker centres, restaurants, fast-food outlets, bars and a cinema complex in the annexe on the northern side.

Visitors to the market are also able to witness the local artists and craftsmen at work. They can even have their profile drawn and portrait painted by the portrait artists or have intricate glass souvenirs specially made for them by the glass blowers.

You may contact Central Market's information counter at +603 2274 6542.

Getting There
Due to its location in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, the Central Market is well served by public transport. It is located along Jalan Benteng off Jalan Hang Kasturi, near the Klang Bus Stand. If you walk from the bus stand, it will take around 5 minutes to reach there.

There are taxi stands and bus-stands (serviced by Intrakota, Metrobus and Cityliner) located at the front (Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock) and the side (Leboh Pasar Besar and Jalan Silang).

In addition, the PUTRA LRT Pasar Seni Station, STAR LRT stations and the commuter trains are located just a short walk away.
