"A landmark historical strucutre, Penang's Court Building today houses the High Courts. Logan's Monument is located in the grounds."

Introduction
One of Penang's heritage buildings and part of the Penang Heritage Trail Tour, the Penang Court Buildings today houses the Penang Supreme Court. At over 100 years old, the building's architecture is reminiscent of classic Grecian temples, with tall, wide pillars dominating its facade. Located near the Esplanade (Padang Kota), those visiting the court buildings can also drop by the Penang MuseumState Assembly Building and Fort Cornwallis nearby.

History
The court buildings original structure was built around the 1880's. An interesting feature to observe in the grounds of the court building, is a memorial built in the memory of James Richardson Logan, bearing the dedication, 'an erudite and skillful lawyer, an eminent scientific ethnologist '. Logan was a notable figure during his time. Editor of the Penang Gazette, Logan made significant contributions towards the study of the East, founding the 27-Volume 'Journal of the Indian Archipelago & Eastern Asia' which is also referred to as  'Logan 's Journals'. Logan died in 1869.
