"Looking for unique handicrafts and antique? The Kuching Waterfront Baazar or popularly known as The Main Bazaar is just the right place to be."

Looking for unique handicrafts and antique? The Kuching Waterfront Main Bazaar is just the right place to be. You can saunter along the shops and marvel at the exquisite display of items available. It's worth going inside for a look, as a lot of the shops have larger, more authentic and even more bizzare collections hidden upstairs or at the back room.

The Bazaar is made up of a row of two storey shophouses on one of Kuching's oldest streets which dates back 1864. The area is considered an 'antique arcade' not only for the row of old shophouses and their old-fashioned facade but also for the variety of handicrafts and antiques can be found here - some are said to be even older than the old-fashioned shop houses!

The Waterfront has of course undergone several transformations since the 19th century - from a small settlement with a few atop buildings, to a busy port with warehouses and wharves, to the landscaped riverside walk it is today. The Waterfront is now also home to modern sculpture, an open-air theatre and a musical fountain.

After you're done with your shopping, take a walk through time along the Waterfront. In days gone by the river was the city's main highway. The river still retains its importance and picturesque charm in the modern era. Present day life is still concentrated on the waterfront.

From Kuching's humble, ancient origins, to its status as a modern city. No visit to Kuching would be complete without a stroll on the modern esplanade, or to sit, relax and experience a Sarawakian sunset.

Getting There
From the bus stations located in Lebuh Jawa, Jln Mosque, the Post Office and Gambier Street, you can just walk to the Waterfront area. It will only take 10-minute leisurely walk from all the bus stations. Taxis are located at many places, especially around the city-centre hotels, which are generally located adjacent to the Waterfront.
