Rengit River
Info Photo Gallery User Rating Packages
"This river that supports several fishing villages is worth a visit, not only for its great seafood but also to experience what life is like in a slow-paced fishing community."

Sungai Rengit supports several fishing villages south of Desaru. It is not only popular for its great seafood but also is the place to visit if you wish to experience what life is like in a slow-paced fishing community. Visit the famous Chinese confectionery in Sungai Rengit town popular among visitors and locals alike.

A cluster of houses in one of the fishing villages, Kampung Jawa , provided such a scenic fishing village backdrop that it has received visitation from film makers who went there to do a shoot for their Chinese movie. Stroll along its quaint streets and absorb the serene and modest surroundings typical of a fishing village.

Don't forget to check out the eateries here that sells fresh seafood including crabs and lobsters. Another interesting attraction is the interesting Chinese temples. The Chinese villages takes pride in organising Chinese opera shows to appease their protectors to the extent that village is perennially filled with such shows.

Getting There
By Bus
Buses leave frequently from Johor Bahru's Larkin Bus Terminal (on Jalan Garuda) to Kota Tinggi's bus terminal on Jalan Niaga Utama. Contact GP Express at Tel: 607-2248662.
From the North South Expressway (NSE), take the Kulai exit (Interchange 252) onto the trunk road heading towards Kota Tinggi (Highway 94 and 3). From JB Town, drive on the Tebrau Highway towards Kota Tinggi. From Kota Tinggi turn right onto the road that leads to Desaru. Stay on this road past the Desaru junction, following signboards indicating the way to Sungai Rengit further south.
User Recommendation

"This is a concise but excellent write up on Sungai Rengit. I wish there could be more information on quaint, small towns in Johor. Most web sites provide little or no information on townships like Sungai Rengit, Telok Sengat or villages like Kg Johor Lama, Tanjong Surat on the east and Pontian Kechil, Kukup etc on the west. Comon my Malaysian friends... you have blissful gems all around you. Shout it to the world, and tell in greater detail. Malaysia Boleh! "
