State Parks & Conservation Areas
Established to safeguard the natural assets of the various states in Malaysia from encroachment, state parks, wildlife and forest conservation areas in Malaysia protect a range of natural features covering all types of natural habitats in the country as well as their inhabitants. These protected areas range in size from several square km or less such as the limestone hills of Perlis to the 2000 square km Royal Belum in Perak and cover natural features such as mangrove forests, peat swamps, rainforests, mountain forests, waterfalls, rivers, limestone hills, caves, hills and mountains. The larger ones are home to most types of Malaysian wildlife while smaller animals inhabit the smaller parks. The state parks and conservation areas of Malaysia with attractive natural features such as waterfalls and caves are popular destinations for nature lovers seeking respite from their routine lives. Many enjoy spending their weekend by trekking, bathing at the waterfalls, caving, bird watching or climbing hills at these parks.
