"Just 3km from Batu Feringghi is an oasis of traditional spice garden, within a jungle valley that is both educational and enligthening." |
|
The Tropical Spice Garden is a privately-funded agro-tourism project endorsed by the Penang state government . Open to the public since November 27th 2003, the garden is landscaped on original jungle terrain covering roughly 8 acres. More than RM2 million has been invested in this project, which is intended to foster understanding and appreciation of tropical plants via conservation, display, education and research programmes. Over 500 varieties of exotic tropical spice, herb and other tropical plants can be found here, including black lily, cocoa, ylang ylang, ferns, gingers, jungle orchids and rare palms. The Tropical Spice Garden aims to become a key attraction and leading botanic institution in Southeast Asia. A charming Straits Colonial bungalow has been converted into a Spice Museum and Visitor Centre.
Opening hours are from 9am to 6pm daily. Free parking is available. Tours of the garden can be had with fees of RM28 for family, RM13 for adults and RM5 for children. Special rates for groups and schools are available. Panoramic Trailer Ride and Wheelchair & Stroller access in designated areas available. Please call +604-8811797 for more information.
