Astronomy Complex Al-Khawarizmi

   This complex is named after the great mathematicians, astronomer and geographer, Abu Abdullah Muhammad ibnu Musa also known as Al- Khawarizmi. Located at Tanjung Bidara Masjid Tanah Melaka is also the venuefor sighting the moon during the Ramadhan Month beginning of fasting month.

• Night Sky Observation ( first in Malaysia). From now till August in the starry dome on a clear dark night we are able to sight planet Saturn through a telescope and other related instruments available at the complex. Sighting of the planet is subject to weather condition.

Turtle Sanctuary & Management Centre :

• Live Hawksbill & Painted Terrapins

   Malacca has only one small sandy beach happens to be one of the most important hawksbill nesting sites in the country. The hawksbill turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata) is an endangered species has golden brown and exquisitely patterned shell. WWF-Malaysia is working with fisherman to support in saving the turtles.Only licensed egg collectors are legally allowed and paid RM 1.30 for each egg they bring to the hatchery where holes are dug in the sand to hold the eggs, each surrounded by its own little wire ence to stop the hatchlings (baby turtles) escaping towards the bright lighs inland in their instintive search or the moonlit sea.

Pulau Upeh and at the Turtle Management Centre aon the coast at Padang Kemunting are being guarded during the nesting season, rom April to August. Last season has been one o the best in successully hatching and returning baby turtles from 303 nests, with over 40 000 eggs, to the sea.

To see just wheer the female turtles go ater nesting, twohave now been with satellite transmitters.The first one has already been tracked south to the coral islands around Singapore where they find their favourite diet of sponges and crustaceans. From there it could travel thousands o kilometers before returning, in wo or three years, tothe titles' traditionalnesting site...if it still there.

One of themost interesting features of Melaka is on its ethnic integration where the Malays appear to be the nucleus of other main community such as the Babas and the convergence of each community influences and cultures. This has indeed illustrates Melaka as a state affluent with colourful and interesting cultures.
